Family photos. When you hear those two words, you're probably one of two people: either you light up thinking "I get to preserve cherished memories of my family as it is right now," or you're immediately groaning "Ugh, I don't like the camera, I hate posing, Mom please don't make me do this." And honestly? If you're anything like I was in my teens and early twenties, you're probably the latter.

You're probably thinking, "Wait, a photographer who didn't like family photos? I need to hear how we got here." Well, you're in luck.

Why I Changed My Mind About Family Photography

Here's what changed everything for me: I didn't get all of my most cherished memories captured as photos from my wedding day. There are stories I'll have to tell my kids about moments that weren't photographed, feelings that exist only in my memory instead of frozen in time through images. That realization hit hard. It made me understand something crucial—we can't get these moments back. Our kids grow up. The ranch changes. Traditions evolve. Time moves whether we're ready or not.

That's exactly why family lifestyle sessions are so important, especially for those of us living the western way of life. These sessions aren't just about having photos to hang on the wall (though we'll get those too). They're about preserving your memories, your values, your traditions, and the heritage you're passing down to the next generation.

What Makes Western Lifestyle Sessions Different

I am a western lifestyle photographer and Colorado cowboy photographer based in Denver, and I specialize in everything that falls into the western way of life. Rodeo? Absolutely. Western engagement photos and cowboy couple photography? Yes! Small business branding? Of course! Cowboy ranch branding photos and community days on the ranch? Oh heck yeah! Those in-between sessions—western couple sessions, western family photographer work, cowgirl photoshoots, country lifestyle photos, horse photographer sessions, and senior portraits? I do those too, and that's what I consider lifestyle photography. It's when you don't need a special event or milestone to get your pictures done. It's about capturing life as you're living it.

My philosophy is simple: do what you want to do in this session. Feed the animals. Go sledding. Have dinner on the porch. Ride your horses. Sit around the fire pit telling stories—maybe even a rustic date night session for couples who want something authentic and meaningful. Whatever you can dream up for your ranch life photoshoot, I'm there like a fly on the wall, capturing your memories through my lens as they naturally unfold.

Yes, we'll still get what I call "parent pleasers"—those beautiful shots where everyone is looking directly at the camera, the ones that look stunning framed above the fireplace. But those will be just a small part of your session. The majority of your time will be spent doing, being, and living, while I document it all. Because that's where the real magic happens—in the moments between the posed shots, in the genuine laughter, in the dirty hands and muddy boots, in the way your daughter's face lights up when she feeds her horse, in how your son concentrates when he's learning to rope.

Preserving a Way of Life That Matters

The western community is slowly fading. Big corporations are taking over land that's been in families for generations. New laws and regulations are being thrown into place that don't understand or respect the agricultural lifestyle. Urban sprawl is creeping further into rural areas. The way of life that shaped so many of us—the one built on hard work, faith, family, and land stewardship—is under pressure like never before.

That's exactly why I'm here. I want to preserve and help revive that love and community through my lens. Your traditions, your way of life, your family—it's all incredibly special. These aren't just photos; they're historical documents. They're proof that this life existed, that it mattered, that it was beautiful and worth preserving. When your kids are grown and showing their own children what life was like on the ranch, these images will tell that story in a way words simply can't.

There's something sacred about documenting a family living out their values in real time. Whether that's teaching your kids the responsibility that comes with caring for animals, passing down horsemanship skills that have been in your family for generations, or simply showing them what it means to work hard and find joy in simple things—these moments deserve to be remembered.

Colorado: A Year-Round Canvas for Your Story

One of the things I love most about Colorado is that it offers year-round opportunities for stunning lifestyle sessions. From January through December, every season brings a completely different vibe and captures a unique aspect of what life is like for your family.

Winter brings a magical quality that's hard to beat. Picture sledding down the hill behind the barn, your kids' cheeks flushed pink from the cold. Horse-drawn sleigh rides through fresh powder. Sipping hot cocoa by the fire while snow falls outside the window. Snowball fights in the front yard. Making snow angels. Bundling up the little ones to go check on the livestock in the early morning when everything is quiet and white. Winter in Colorado is harsh sometimes, but it's also breathtakingly beautiful, and it tells an important part of your family's story.

Spring is about renewal and hope. It's rain puddle jumping in the front yard, watching the world turn green again. Morning coffee on the porch while you watch the sunrise paint the mountains pink and gold. Trail rides through meadows just starting to bloom. The relief and joy that comes with warmer weather and longer days. Teaching your kids to ride as the weather warms up. Spring reminds us that even after the hardest winters, life comes back.

Summer is pure freedom and adventure. It's camping under the stars in the high country. Hiking to alpine lakes with the family. Long trail rides in the cool of the evening. Rodeo season in full swing—the excitement, the competition, the community. Horse camping trips where you unplug from everything and just be together. Creek swimming on hot afternoons. Summer is when the ranch is in full swing, when kids are out of school and underfoot, when memories are made that will last a lifetime.

Fall brings a richness that's hard to describe. The aspens turning gold against evergreen mountains. Pumpkin patches and apple orchards. Hay rides at sunset. Enjoying the cooler weather and the beauty of the changing season. The satisfaction of watching the leaves change colors. Fall is reflective and beautiful, a time when we're grateful for the abundance and preparing for the rest ahead.

Each season offers not just different activities, but entirely different backgrounds and lighting. Winter gives us crisp snow and dramatic contrast. Spring brings rain-fresh greenery and wildflowers. Summer offers golden hour light that seems to last forever and wild mountain backdrops. Fall provides that gorgeous warm light and those rich, changing colors that make Colorado famous.

The Activities That Tell Your Story

What I love most about western lifestyle sessions and ranch photography is how perfectly your daily life translates into meaningful images. You don't have to come up with something artificial or forced. Your real life is already beautiful and worth documenting.

Want photos with horses? Let's do it. Whether it's your daughter riding her barrel horse, your son learning to rope, or the whole family saddling up for a trail ride, horses are often central to western families and they absolutely belong in your photos. As a horse photographer in Colorado, I understand the bond between riders and their horses, and I know how to capture that connection authentically.

Want to include your other animals? I'd love to capture you and your kids feeding them, grooming horses, bottle-feeding a calf, or gathering eggs from the chickens. Those early morning and evening feeding routines are some of the sweetest moments of ranch life, and watching kids learn responsibility through animal care is a beautiful thing to document in country lifestyle photos.

Want to include working moments? These aren't just chores, they're the backbone of the lifestyle, and they tell an important part of your story. These authentic cowboy photographer moments showcase the real work that goes into ranch life. (If you're interested in capturing a full day of ranch work like branding cattle, mending fence, or moving herds, ask me about my full-day ranch sessions!)

Or maybe you want something more relaxed: family dinner on the porch, reading stories by the fire, teaching the kids to fish, stargazing from the truck bed, roasting marshmallows. Planning a western maternity photoshoot to document this special time before your ranch family grows? Or looking for country engagement photos that reflect your lifestyle and values? All of it matters. All

My Connection to This Life

I didn't just decide to photograph western families because it seemed like a good niche. This is my life. I grew up riding horses, mucking stalls, working, and spending every possible moment on horseback. I understand the connection between a rider and their horse. I know what it's like to wake up before dawn to feed animals. I get why families choose this harder, simpler, more intentional way of life.

That's why I'm drawn to families who share these values—hard work, tradition, faith, family, and stewardship of the land and animals in our care. There's something beautiful about the way western families live with intention, passing down not just property but values and skills and a whole way of seeing the world.

Where We'll Capture Your Story

I'm based in the Denver area, but I happily travel throughout Colorado to wherever my clients need me. Unlike Florida where I previously photographed, Colorado is wonderfully manageable for travel—I can get almost anywhere in the state without too much trouble, and honestly, I love exploring different areas.

I have a special love for Estes Park with its dramatic mountain backdrops and that quintessential Colorado mountain town feel. Fort Collins is another favorite with its beautiful open spaces and authentic western culture. Colorado Springs offers incredible diversity from the plains to Pikes Peak. But truly, I'm happy to go wherever your family is. Whether you're on a ranch on the eastern plains, in a mountain valley on the western slope, or anywhere in between, I want to capture your story in the place you call home.

Let's Preserve Your Memories

As someone who will have to tell my own kids about parts of my wedding that weren't captured, I'm committed to making sure that doesn't happen with the rest of my life—or yours. Lifestyle sessions like this ensure that the memories you're making right now, the traditions you're keeping alive, and the love that fills your home and your land are all preserved beautifully.

Your story matters. Your family's way of life matters. The lessons you're teaching your kids and the heritage you're passing down—it all matters. And twenty years from now, when your kids are showing their own children what life was like growing up on the ranch, working the land, living close to nature and animals and each other, these photos will be treasures beyond measure.

My books are open, and I cannot wait to bring your memories to life so you can cherish them forever. Let's document your beautiful, authentic western life—the mud and the magic, the work and the wonder, the traditions and the love. Because this life? It's worth remembering.
